This highly unusual amuletic figure depicts the Buddha seated in meditation and belongs to a vernacular tradition of Laotian Buddhist sculpture. The iconography is restrained, with the Buddha represented in the earth-touching gesture (bhumisparsha mudra). Its deliberately rustic and archaic aesthetic stands in marked contrast to the more refined bronzes produced by the royal workshops of Luang Prabang.
 
The face is distinguished by strongly stylised and powerful features. The eyes are narrow, almond-shaped and incised, appearing almost closed. The nose is broad, triangular and strongly projecting, while the mouth is rendered as a simple, finely engraved line. The pronounced eyebrows form a continuous arch. The head is surmounted by a tall conical finial, a vernacular interpretation of the ushnisha, which emphasises the verticality of the sculpture and lends the figure an almost totemic presence.
 
he body is modelled in a highly simplified manner, with a triangular torso defined by abrupt planes and narrow shoulders. The drapery is reduced to a few incised lines crossing the chest. The thick, irregular circular base further reinforces the vernacular character of the object. Tool marks and a rough surface texture remain visible, reflecting a local artisanal casting technique intended for votive use.
 
The deep and richly nuanced old brown patina reveals golden highlights along the raised edges, accentuating the angular volumes and the hieratic expression of the figure.
