This small bronze sculpture depicts the goddess Durga in her battle against the buffalo demon Mahishasura, one of the most celebrated episodes of Hindu mythology, recounted in the Devī Māhātmya.
 
The goddess is represented with multiple arms holding her divine attributes in a dynamic pose as she beheads and subdues the demon emerging from his buffalo form, symbolizing the triumph of good over the forces of chaos and ignorance.
 
Durga wears a tall conical mukuta crown and a finely rendered short dhoti. The modeling is restrained yet expressive, with her serene face providing a striking contrast to the dramatic energy of the scene. Compact and well balanced, the composition is characteristic of small devotional bronzes intended for domestic worship.
 
Cast using the traditional lost-wax process, the sculpture exhibits traces of devotional use as well as minor casting irregularities, both of which attest to its age and authenticity. The surface has developed a rich, naturally aged patina that enhances its sculptural quality.
 
Condition: Minor casting imperfections, small losses, and expected wear consistent with age and use. Overall in good condition. The trishula (trident) formerly held in the extended right hand is probably missing, as is the prabhavali (flaming aureole) that originally framed the figure from behind.
