This circular export porcelain plate features a gently lobed rim and a fine white porcelain body with a slightly ivory-toned glaze. Decorated in the Famille Rose palette with hand-applied gilt highlights, the composition centers on a rocaille cartouche enclosing a smoking tripod incense burner (censer), accompanied by a flowing ribbon bearing the Latin motto: "Dum peream placeam" ("Let me please, even if I perish").
 
The cavetto and rim are embellished with alternating rocaille cartouches outlined in gilding, interspersed with bouquets of flowers, fruit, and scrolling foliage. A peripheral border of gilt bamboo stems and scattered blossoms completes the elegant composition. Beneath the glaze, the ground displays a delicately molded relief of floral and scrolling motifs, a characteristic feature of refined 18th-century Chinese export porcelain.
 
The precision of the drawing, the finely shaded pink, green, and blue enamels, and the carefully applied gilt decoration attest to a high-quality production intended for the European market, reflecting the fashionable Rococo taste of the period. Condition: An old restored rim chip associated with a hairline crack. Light wear to the gilding and minor surface scratches consistent with age and use. Small chips. Examined under ultraviolet light.
