This object was cast specifically to serve as a votive deposit sealed within the relic chamber at the heart of a stupa or beneath the base of a pagoda.
 
The Buddha is depicted seated in a cross-legged meditation posture on a molded circular pedestal. His right hand reaches downward toward the ground, touching the earth in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (calling the Earth to witness against the demons of Mara). His left hand rests flat in his lap, holding the elixir flask—an attribute associated with virtues of regeneration, protection, and longevity, characteristic of certain Burmese devotional representations.
The figure belongs to the iconographic tradition of the Jambupati Buddha (the Buddha adorned as a universal monarch). He wears a tall, tiered crown flanked by outward-flaring ear ornaments and a long pectoral necklace.
 
Condition Report
The surface exhibits a significant burial patina with centuries-old oxidation (green copper carbonates), revealing residual islands of gold leaf gilding applied over a lacquer ground. The base of the pedestal shows minor crumbling and loss stemming from the original casting process and sealing.
